There are three main types of ice sculpture molds that you can use. Polycarbonate molds are clear and will let you to see if the water has frozen and your sculpture is ready. These molds are also reusable unlike some of the other types. Ice sculpture molds can also be made from latex. These molds are elastic and allow you to remove the material easily. Fiberglass molds are usually composed of two equal halves. This makes it easy to remove the sculpture when the water is frozen.

To produce the sculpture, you will need to put your ice sculpture molds in a freezer. The length of time that you have to leave in there will vary according to the temperature setting in the freezer. As a rule of thumb, you should give small molds about 24 hours to freeze. Medium-sized ice sculpture molds will usually take 48 hours, and large molds can take as long as 72 hours.

You will likely want the ice in your sculpture to be as clear as possible. Therefore, you shouldn’t use regular tap water to fill your ice sculpture molds. Instead, you should use distilled water because it will produce ice that is clearer.

You will need to pay attention when you are filling your ice sculpture molds with water. You need to remember that water will expand as it freezes. Therefore, you shouldn’t fill your ice sculpture molds all the way. You should only fill it 90% full so that you give the water room to expand while it freezes.

Removing
